Dude, This Is Pathetic Yet Somehow Entertaining
Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer magnitude of destruction and just throws its hands up, opting for amusement as a coping defense.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you felt morphs into a groan.

Dreadful Day Ever

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
